Asian International University (AIU) is located in Imphal, the capital city of Manipur. Established under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 and operating under the Asian International University Act with authorisation from the Government of Manipur, AIU offers programmes across the undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and professional levels.

Who Can Apply?

  • Minimum 55% marks (or equivalent grade) in a relevant Master's degree is required for eligibility.
  • Research guide / supervisor is allotted by the University based on specialisation and availability.
  • Admission is subject to availability of a Guide/Supervisor in the candidate's chosen area of specialisation.
  • The Synopsis and Thesis must be prepared and managed by the candidate, in consultation with the allotted guide.
  • 3 to 4 in-person visits to the University campus are mandatory during the course of the programme.

Ph.D. Process & Stages

The Ph.D. journey at AIU runs through two broad phases — Pre-Registration (Admission & Course Work) and Registration (Research & Thesis) — followed by evaluation and award of the degree.

Phase 1 Pre-Registration: Admission & Course Work

Document Verification
Academic records and eligibility documents are verified by the University.

Entrance Examination
Candidate appears for the University's Ph.D. entrance test.

Interview
Shortlisted candidates attend a personal interview / research aptitude discussion.

Issue of Admission Letter
Typically issued within about 15 days of the entrance exam result.

Course Work (6 Months)
Course work is issued 20–30 days after the admission letter and runs for 6 months.

Course Work Examination
Held on completion of the 6-month course work period.

Issue of Marksheet
Course work marksheet is issued after evaluation.

Guide Allotment & Synopsis
University appoints a research guide; candidate prepares and submits the Synopsis (communicated by email).

DRC Meeting
Departmental Research Committee reviews and approves the guide allotment and research topic.

Issue of Registration / DRC Letter
Formal confirmation of Ph.D. registration is issued.
Phase 2 Registration: Research & Thesis

Research Publications
Candidate must publish 2 Research Papers in UGC-approved journals.

Conference Presentations
Candidate must present at 2 Conferences (one National and one International) with certification.

Six-Monthly Progress Reporting
Progress report and applicable fee submitted every 6 months to the DRC, through to completion (minimum 2 years from registration).

Pre-Submission
Pre-submission presentation / seminar before the Department, after minimum tenure and publication requirements are met.

Thesis Submission & Evaluation
Thesis is submitted (with applicable submission fee) and sent for evaluation to appointed examiners.

Viva-Voce
Open defence of the thesis before the examination panel.

Notification
Result of the viva-voce and thesis evaluation is notified to the candidate.

Award of Degree
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree is conferred by the University.
